He's emotionally available at the beginning which can be really seductive. But as things get more real, he regresses & his true limited emotional capacity becomes clear. The reality is, he has no idea how to do a relationship beyond the "opening the door" phase & is very threatened by the vulnerability of real intimacy.
Being with him feels like constantly being pulled around by somebody. His inner emotional world is unexplored & chaotic. He doesn't know how to hold emotional stability for himself & he definitely doesn't know how to do that with you. Instability is his home... he just wears a charming mask to hide all that, at first.
He may not say it, but he believes the relationship is about his needs being centered. He likes you as much as you're willing to center him & give him the love & support he doesn't know how to give himself. The more you assert your own needs, the more distant, defensive, & mean he'll become.
